The State of Idaho achieving the expansion in the trucking industry in spite of having long open stretched roads, occasionally blocked mountain roads of an avalanche and uncertain weather conditions. Idaho’s diverse driving conditions is a challenge for many truck drivers and keeps them motivated.

Employment:

The Idaho provides 35,950 jobs in the trucking industry or one out of 14 in the state. In 2010, the total trucking industry wages paid in Idaho exceeded $1.4 billion with an average annual trucking industry salary of $39,832. In May 2010, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that truck drivers, heavy, tractor-trailer and light, delivery drivers, held 15,230 jobs with a mean annual salary of $30,825.

Small Business Emphasis:

Idaho has over 3,810 trucking companies which are mostly small, locally owned businesses and are served by a wide range of both large and small supporting companies.

Transportation of Essential Products:

Trucks transport 89% of the state's total manufactured tonnage or 156,822 tons per day.

Over 72% of Idaho communities exclusively use trucks to move their goods.

As an Industry:

The Idaho trucking industry pays approximately $245 million in federal and state roadway taxes and fees. The industry paid 47% of all taxes and fees owed by Idaho motorists, despite only 12% of vehicle miles traveled by the trucks in the state.

Individual Companies:

In 2011, a five-axle tractor semitrailer combination paid $7,389 of state's highway user fees and taxes in addition to $8,906 of federal, which were over the regular taxes paid by businesses in Idaho.

Roadway Use:

Idaho had 47,790 miles of public roads over which 15 billion miles are traveled by motorists and only 1.9 billion miles by trucks.
